A jangseung is a Korean totem pole or village guardian. These types of totem poles were placed on the borders of a village to indicate the village boundaries. The Jangseungs pictured here are found in the Korean Bell Garden in the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia.
About Jean Goodwin Brooks
Photography gives me such great joy. It's wonderful to discover the beauty in familiar places and things as well as in some new and different ones. For instance, if you look closely at a dandelion gone to seed, it's really quite beautiful and intricate. A simple cottage shutter and a bench become a composition.
